Giveaway Extravangaza Day #1

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand we’re off!

Day 1 of the Extravaganza begins with some nice reader swag.  You guessed it: books!

(Btw, be sure to read the instructions for the giveaway, if you’re confused.)

The following are my FAVORITE FANTASY BOOKS, and I want to spread their awesomeness around.  Whoever wins gets to pick one of the listed books, and I’ll have the online bookstore of your choice (e.g. B&N, Borders, Amazon, etc.) send it your way.

Watch me be incredibly long-winded:

Or, if you don’t want to watch me ramble on for 6 minutes, then just scroll down for the inside scoop.
Oh, and I apologize for how blue and washed-out I look.  I blame it on the poor lighting, stormy weather, and crappy camera.

Books to Choose From:

  • The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin
  • Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin
  • Jonathon Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke
  • The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle

To Enter:

  • Click follow in the right column (if you aren’t already).  You don’t have to do this, but it’d be cool if you could…
  • Scroll to the bottom and leave a friendly comment.
  • If you have blogged or tweeted about the Extravaganza Day 1, let me know in the comments (you can always come back and comment again if you decide to blog/tweet later). You get your name in the drawing an extra time for tweeting or blogging.
  • I’ll put everyone’s names in a random-selector-thingy, and next Monday, I’ll announce the winner!

You tell me:

What are your favorite fantasy or science fiction books?  Have you read any of the ones I’m giving away?  And, if so, did you enjoy them/hate them/none of the above??

THANKS, FRIENDS!

-S.

And The Dispossessed is my all time favorite book by Ursulsa Le Guin. Of course, it’s difficult to choose only ONE of her books as a favorite. She’s one fabulous writer.

    Thanks so much, C.!!

And yes, Le Guin is amazing. She’s my writing hero. I feel like we’re kindred spirits… Well, sort of. She gave up on her PhD to marry a Frenchman and become a writer. I gave up on my PhD to do the exact same thing!!! :)

Hi Susan! Congrats on signing with Sara! And welcome to the Nancy Coffey Lit family. :-)

I’ve only read the GRRM book, but I love fantasy. My favorite: Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Seriously, the best fantasy book ever written.

Wowzers, count me in! I haven’t read any of your books I’m afraid, but The Dispossessed has been on my list for years now. Someday I’ll reach that rainbow…

    My faavourite fantasies would be:

Howl’s Moving Castle – Diana Wynn Jones
The Daughter of the Forest – Juliett Marillier
    Graceling – Kristen Cashore

Also, can’t believe you signed with an agent and didn’t send a marching band to my frontdoor to tell me! I don’t care if you’re in Europe! *sigh* Either way, I’m so super psyched for you! :D :D

Congratulations on joining the LTWF and (only SLIGHTLY more exciting) signing with an agent! Woo hoo! Own and enjoyed Martin’s G.O.T., I’ve “read” (audio book) Jonathan and Mr. Norrell and loved it. Wonderful characterizations. Have always loved and wanted to be Ursula K. Le Guin. Am embarrassed to admit (especially having been a teenage unicorn fanatic) that I’ve never read Beagle’s classic. *GASP*

It’s okay to have skipped The Last Unicorn. You can always read it now. :) Perhaps you’ll win a copy here! (P.S. I want to be Le Guin too. She’s my idol.)

Hmmm, my favorite fantasy book would have to be A WRINKLE IN TIME. But your choices are also very good. I know our fellow LTWFer Sarah Maas is a HUGE fan of THE LAST UNICORN.

Congrats on signing with Nancy Coffey and joining LTWF. I haven’t read any of these books but have heard so much about them. My favourite science fiction authors are Bruce Coville and for fantasy it’d have to be the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. Thanks for the great giveaway.

Hi, Susan! Came over from LTWF – I’m so glad you’re the new contributor, and I can’t wait to start reading your posts. Perhaps something on how on earth you manage being a married writing scientist? xD

Out of those books I’ve only read “The Last Unicorn,” but I remember thinking that book was just so damn ETHEREAL, it was colored in black and silver in my mind, slow-moving and beautiful.

Hmm. Every book that comes to mind fits more under the category of magical realism than fantasy or science fiction, however, I remember loving The Summoning series by Robin D. Owens (although I have a feeling that was less for its fantastic writing and more for the risque scenes – oh, young teenage me!).
