Tangled: a book recommendation

I adored Erica O’Rourke’s first book, Torn, and I won’t lie: I had very high hopes when I went into Tangled.

Well, I can honestly say that my hopes were met and then some. This sequel takes the twisted, complex plot from book 1 to a whole new level.

A month ago, Mo Fitzgerald risked her life to stop an ancient prophecy and avenge her best friend’s murder. Now, she only wants to keep her loved ones safe. But the magic—and the Chicago Mob—have other plans. 

Mysterious, green-eyed Luc is back, asking for help—and a second chance. Colin, her strongest protector, is hiding a shocking secret. And inside Constance, the magic is about to go terribly wrong. Tangled in a web of love and betrayal, Mo must choose between the life she’s dreamed of and the one she’s destined for.

Okay, first off: Mo. I adore her–I adore that she’s not The Chosen One, but only the The Chosen One’s BFF. I adore that she goes from being a character to whom stuff happens to a character who makes stuff happen. Her strength–and sometimes misguided choices–in Tangled are exactly what I want to see in a good YA heroine.

Second: Colin. And Luc…and Colin. The stellar love triangle O’Rourke gave us in Torn is back and ten times hotter. I honestly adore both boys, and both boys brought out different sides of Mo’s character. The romantic tension just sparks on the page.

Third: Subplots. O’Rourke is literally a master at weaving together seemingly separate stories into one. Plus, a plot about the Mob?! Who wouldn’t love that? I think the criminal connections in Mo’s family just add another unique layer to this story, and I can honestly say, “Wow. I wish I had thought of that.”

This is not your average YA paranormal romance–it digs more deeply and spins tropes on their heads.Quite simply, I need book 3 in my life…like yesterday.

So, if you enjoy thrilling romance, criminal mystery, or kickbutt heroines, then be SURE to pick up Tangled–and it’s predecessor, Torn.
