To celebrate the recent release of Windwitch and to say THANK YOU for all your support of the both the series and of me, I am hosting a super epic fan art contest of super epic proportions.

You can learn more about why below, but the general gist is: I love cosplaying and I want YOU to be able to cosplay your favorite character in the Witchlands!

What You Can Win

The Grand Prize Winner will win:

  • A FULL COSTUME rendition of your art submission fabricated by the incredibly talented, internationally renowned cosplaying superstar Nicole Marie Jean. (Seriously, she’s amazing and you can learn more about her below.)
  • Signed copies of Truthwitch, Windwitch, Bloodwitch (ARC).
  • Signed copies of the repackaged Something Strange and Deadly trilogy.

5 Runners-Up will win:

  • Signed copies of Truthwitch, Windwitch, Bloodwitch (ARC).
  • Signed copies of the repackaged Something Strange and Deadly trilogy.

Winners will be chosen by an advisory committee that includes: Susan Dennard (me!), Joanna Volpe (my agent!), Whitney Ross (my Tor editor!), and a fourth, soon to be decided judge from Tor! We will each submit our top 6 personal favorites, and then as a group, we will weed those down to the final 6 winners.

All winners will be announced and notified on April 14, 2017.

How To Enter

  • Create fan art of your favorite Witchlands character! The Witchlands-themed outfit is the key. 😉
  • I REPEAT: the Witchlands-themed outfit is the key!
  • All art mediums will be accepted, so get creative! Sculpt, embroider, paint, pixelate, sketch — whatever!
  • If your fan art is not easily digitized (i.e. a frilly pillow), just snap a picture of it! All we need is to see the awesomeness of the created character in .jpg form!
  • Once your Witchlands character art is complete, you must submit it in .jpg form along with the completed form by 11:59:59 PM EST on JUNE 16, 2017.
  • Note: this is only open to US entrants. I’m sorry!! For legal reasons, I have to keep it that way.

Why Cosplaying?

Dragon*Con 2016!

For those of you who don’t know, I’m a lover of fan cons and cosplaying. The first con I attended was Dragon*Con in 1997. I was 13. I went for the Dragonriders of Pern stuff; my little brother went for the Star Wars stuff; my mom went because SOMEONE had to make sure we didn’t spend all our money on Magic cards. (Not to mention, someone had to drive.)

I still go to Dragon*Con — as well as heaps of other cons across the country — and I might’ve cried the first time I attended Dragon*Con as a GUEST in 2012. I mean, I sat next to Todd McCaffrey on a panel!!!

Yeah, more than a few tears were shed.

A few tears were also shed the first time I saw someone cosplay as one of my characters. Like, there is literally no feeling MORE REWARDING than to know someone loved your story enough to not only come visit you at an event, BUT TO DRESS UP AS YOUR CHARACTER.

Like whoa. Words can’t describe the awesome explosion of emotions that happens in my chest whenever that happens.

And so, because I love cosplaying and because you (presumably) love the Witchlands, here we are in that happy cross-over area of the Venn diagram that is both: a Witchlands costume contest.

About the Incredible Nicole Marie Jean

Nicole Marie Jean is a cosplayer, artist, sculptor and designer from San Diego, California. She began her journey into the cosplay and convention world in 2011. It was the previous year that she discovered what cosplay was. Nicole fell in love with the idea of being able to combine her love of comics and art to bring her favorite characters to life. During the past four years she has traveled around the country for numerous events and conventions as both an attendee and a guest. She has judged a number of contests and been a part of many panels. Nicole has won numerous awards for her costumes both at conventions and online.

Nicole has created over 100 costumes in the past five years, and all are inspired by her favorite characters from comics, movies, books, video games, and animes. Nicole is most known for her take on Bane from The Dark Knight Rises, which has given her the nickname throughout the cosplay community as “Lady Bane.”

When Nicole isn’t creating or debuting new costumes, she sculpts and makes items for her online store. She hopes to continue this journey for many years to come while meeting new people, teaching and inspiring others, entertaining those who follow her work, and becoming better at her craft along the way.
