New Orleans of 1873 was not so different from the New Orleans today. It was a teeming hub between the Gulf of Mexico and the thriving Mississippi River–people from all over the country and all over the world would stop in New Orleans. With its French-Creole culture and architecture, the city is really like no other in the United States.
