Hex Hall: a book recommendation

5 out of 5 stars.

After a commenter (Thanks, Laura!) suggested Rachel Hawkin’s Hex Hall, I promptly got my hands on a copy.  And oh boy!  I read the whole book that same day — it was FANTASTIC.  And now I’m stuck waiting for the sequel… Le sigh.

After a love-spell-gone-wrong, Sophie gets sentenced to a reform school for witches, faeries, and shape shifters.  But it’s not Sophie’s fault she got the spell wrong — she knows nothing about magic thanks to growing up with her non-witch Mom. Now she’s stuck with all these other paranormal delinquents, and a coven of super model witches have decided Sophie is their newest enemy.  some über creepy ghost is following her around.

When Sophie’s magical ignorance lands her in “detention” with her crush Archer, Sophie thinks maybe it won’t be so bad.  But then a series of brutal, deadly attacks start happening to the witches, and Sophie could be next. And worst of all, Sophie’s only friend is the number one suspect…

Okay, I’ll just reiterate that I LOVED this book.  It was a little rushed at the climax, but I didn’t even care…  I loved the school so much, and holy crow, Archer… ::drooooool::

Sophie’s voice is sarcastic, and she manages to find humor in even the crappiest situations.  I really enjoyed being in her head, and I can’t wait for book 2, Demonglass.

If you’re in the mood for quirky fantasy, humor, and excitement, then definitely read this!

You tell me: Have you read Hex Hall?  Or any other books similar that you’d recommend?
