All Hallow’s Read Giveaway: HOUSE OF LEAVES
In honor of All Hallow’s Read (see the video below for more info), I’m giving away a copy of the scariest book I’ve ever read.
by Mark Z. Danielewski
This book has made it impossible for me to ever live in a house alone. For the rest of my life, I will be terrified of closets, look askance at all tattoo parlors, and wonder whether the book drove me mad or this insanity was always lurking deep within.
It.
Is.
Terrifying.
With pages that look like this:
And a section at the end that can only be read by deciphering the code (DON’T DECIPHER IT. IT IS SO DISTURBING.), House of Leaves is what we call a mindf***.
It is a book within a book; story told by the deranged Johnny Truant about a manuscript he discovers. That manuscript is terrifying, and just as it rips Johnny’s fragile mind apart, it will rip apart yours. And as we watch Johnny’s life unravel with fear, so will yours…
Sounds fun, eh? π Well, it is. So if you’re interested in reading this terror, then
LEAVE A COMMENT BELOW.
I’ll announce the winner on Halloween (next Monday).
And now, to let Niel Gaiman explain what All Hallow’s Read is…

Um, hell yes! Count me in! I’ve been looking for a good scary book to read lately. Something about this time of year has been craving to curl up couch under a blanket with a scary book (and preferably on a cold, cold night in front of a crackling fire, but until I move that’s not going to happen … ever). So yes, I will most definitely be checking this book out even if I don’t win. π

Sounds like a heck of a lot of fun! I need more books to scare me, instead of just grossing me out. (Witness my pointed stare at every Richard Laymon book I have ever read.)

October 26, 2011 @ 3:08 pm
Yeah, I’ve never tried Richard Laymon. That whole splatterpunk horror just doesn’t do it for me…

Ah yes, I recall Jeremy, Weeks, and I (and Jason?) going crazy over this book… I picked it up because Jeremy said he could never see a closet the same way, and I wanted to know why.

I should probably stay away from this since I get scared easily, but it sounds interesting π The only scary books I remember reading was the Witch Saga by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor when I was a kid (and really, they were more creepy than scary). Is the giveaway international? (~w~)
Susan Dennard
October 27, 2011 @ 9:52 am
Seeing as I live in Germany, itβs definitely international! Sorry for not specifying. π
And hmmmm, I havenβt heard of the Witch Saga. Iβll have to look into thoseβ¦
