Writing is hard…
…so don’t give up. I don’t really have anything else to say today other than that. I’m in the middle of book 3 revisions, renovating my house, preparing lesson plans for the YAGB tour, and revising other books that have not yet sold. It all seems pretty overwhelming and insurmountable.
But it isn’t. It never is.
The thing is: you can’t stop working. And you can’t give up.
Writing is really hard. Revising is really hard too. And it doesn’t get easier just because you’re published or agented or have finished X-number of books or sold in 45 territories. More often than not, the writing just gets harder.
But don’t give up. You’ll get where you need to be; we all do.
And now, here’s some music to send you off to work by. It’s my current writing fave, and I hope you find it as uplifting as I do.

My face right now is DDDD: because I saw this JUST as I was thinking if I should skip writing to work on something else today. Thanks for the reminder, Susan! <3

Perfect timing, I haven’t been writing for the last few weeks, not really, because it’s so hard when the words aren’t coming out how you want. I need to remember that my first draft will never not be shitty and just get on with it so I can revise!

^.^ Great words of encouragement matched with a spirited music anthem. Thanks for the little boost.

This is a post that I needed to see this week. I’ve been experiencing minor obstacles with my writing this week, but you’ve reminded me that I just shouldn’t give up on it!

Heh, moving is hard work too, and I totally get why you might be feeling a little wrung out! When my boyfriend and I moved into our house (the first house we’ve ever actually owned; moving in here was SO different from moving into any other rented place either of us has lived in! Like: this place is ours, it matters!) last year, I had a definite shortage of motivation for writing for a while afterwards.
I’m going to echo everyone else and say that this is just what I needed to remind myself that it’s okay to find all this a bit hard at times. Revisions have been a bumpy ride so far, but you’re right: there’s no sense in giving up!
You rock, and I’m seriously looking forward to reading A Dawn Most Wicked and A Darkness Strange and Lovely this summer!

Interesting music choice, Susan. Do you typically work to the sound of instrumentals? (I find that lyrics are too distracting, unless they’re in a foreign language, which makes the voice just another instrument).
