The Apocalypse (and Pub Crawl) is Coming!
If you trust the Mayans, than you think this year is the year to end all years…quite literally. I don’t put too much stock into that stuff, but then again, I’m not SO confident that I’ll knock it down.
Let’s just say I really HOPE it’s not the year of the apocalypse.
THAT SAID, I’ve read a few really fantastic apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic books…
I’m pretty sure these books have educated me in all the proper ways I must plan for the apocalypse–from throwing elbows at the grocery store (Life As We Knew It) to heading as far north as one can (World War Z), I am COVERED.
But what’s truly amazing about 2012 isn’t the pending apocalypse, but all the AUTHORS THAT WILL DEBUT!!
Yesterday Veronica Rossi’s amazing Under the Never Sky released. Jodi Meadow’s Incarnate comes out later this month. And there are so, so, SO many more great books to come. Just check out this list.
AAAANNNDDD since Pub(lishing) Crawl launches on Monday (just in time for the apocalypse!), I think it’s only appropriate I have another giveaway!!!
As with Monday’s giveaway (which is still running! Be sure to enter!), I’ll give away TWO BOOKS!
One copy of Susan Beth Pfeffer’s Life As We Knew It and John Marsden’s Tomorrow, When the War Began.
To enter, simply fill out the form below, and one week from now, I’ll announce the winner! The contest is open internationally. 🙂

Great contest!
I think that the Apocalypse is totally not nigh. I mean, the Mayan calendar (which everyone thinks is the end of the world) does end in December of this year, but just like any other calendar, it restarts. Imagine people causing a fuss on December 31st of every year. Silly, right?

I didn’t know that, Jess!! I’ve never even heard it! But it’s certainly good to learn–I can stop stressing about this Mayan-apocalypse now. 😉

I heard something about a shift in polarity happening around December, but I figure if that’s anything to worry about, more geologists would be freaking out.

Yeah, you make a good point. If scientists aren’t freakin’ about that, then we’re *probably* okay. Or I hope so, at least. 🙂

2012 is starting off great for me – please, no apocalypse!

Agreed! I really like my book to have a chance to release, please!! Not to mention all that *life*-living I’d like to keep on doing! 😉

Hmmmm I don’t believe the Mayan apocalypse (because it has a certain alian aspect…I think) but can’t wait for the pre-apocalypse party!XD
Hmmm as a bit of random news Irish people are meant to be the most gloomiest nationality, only above Romania, Serbia, Iraq and palestine. Supposedly our happiness factor is 20 percent were the average is 40%. Lol, well that’s preety…gloomyXD

Oooh, pre-apocalypse party! I hadn’t even thought of that!
And HAHA to Irish being the gloomiest! That’s both terrible and kind of funny. Why do you think the Irish are so down??

Happy New Year, Sooz! Hope you are having fun in the USA! When the whole Y2K thing happened, I was actually deathly afraid (where was all the post-apocolyptic YA stuff back in 1999 to reassure me that I might actually survive??). Anyways, for whatever reason I don’t have the same fear with the Mayan prediction. But if it does happen, at least it’s at the end of the year so I’ll have had a chance to read most of the 2012 debuts 🙂

January 4, 2012 @ 6:48 pm
Yeah, I think after “suriving” Y2K, it’s hard to put stock in other stuff… And YES, good point–if it does happen, at least we (hopefully) have most of the year to enjoy! 🙂

All the Apocalypse stuff is a load of rubbish in my opinion–but it makes for awesome books, that’s for sure! Another fantastic giveaway, Sooz! 🙂

Haha–a load of rubbish, yes. But fun to speculate (and read about) all the same!! 😀

I doubt there’s anything to worry about. And if there IS, I will throw a hissy fit because their calendar ends the day before my birthday. Not cool, guys.
I’m really looking forward to the launch of Pub(lishing) Crawl, and totally wishing I was a part of it, haha.

Oooh, NOT cool. And one more reason we can’t let this whole end-of-the-world come to pass! 😛

After living through Y2K and none of the lights going out, I absolutely disbelieve in the apocalypse. In fa

Well, I can definitely say Y2K was anti-climactic…and I sure hope this 2012-hype is too. 😉

Maybe the planets will all align and free the Titans and the earth will implode… but I doubt it =P

Ooh freed Titans… I’m all down for that so long as Percy Jackson is around. 😉 Or Sam Worthington-as-Perseus.

Thanks so much for the giveaway! I love reading about apocalyptic books, but I don’t believe anything like that could happen soon…unless there’s a nuclear war. God I hope not! I know that scientists say the world will end one day because the sun is dying, but that is thousands of years away. However, it’s interesting to read about it and see all the author’s different perspectives. ‘m reading UNDER THE NEVER SKY now. I’m looking forward to reading LEGEND and WORLD WAR Z.
Susan Dennard
January 9, 2012 @ 4:57 am
Oh dear, I also it’s not nuclear war… I heard about an asteroid that’s supposed to hit (or almost hit) earth in 2029. Fingers crossed it doesn’t come to pass (haha, pun intended).

On New Year’s Eve, as I was watching TV, I could hear the booming of the fireworks and people talking and sirens going off. As I was nodding off, you know that weird state of mind between sleep and awake, I thought the world was ending! I woke up, looked outside and everything was normal. I was just a tad bit disappointed.
Susan Dennard
January 9, 2012 @ 4:57 am
Awww…kinda anti-climactic to have the world *not* ending. But also good. Very good. I’m definitely not ready for all this to be over. 😉 Happy New Year!

Oooh!! I’ve read (and loved) some of these but I haven’t read Life As We Knew It or Tomorrow, When the War Began. I love me some apocalypse books.

Me too!!! You should definitely pick them up (if you’re not a winner, that is ;)).

January 7, 2012 @ 2:35 am
Nah. I don’t think the apocalypse is nigh. If I did, I probably wouldn’t love reading apocalyptic stories so much. 😀
Susan Dennard
January 9, 2012 @ 4:59 am
Haha! Good point, Peggy! Apocalypse books wouldn’t be entertaining if there was any chance they’d be real…or…is it actually the looming threat that they ARE true that makes them fun?? 😉

January 8, 2012 @ 12:57 am
I’ve heard so much about Tomorrow, When The War Began! As for the apocalypse, pfft. I don’t hold with such nonsense. 😛

Way to be straightforward, Yahong! 😀 NONSENSE.PFFFT. Love it.
