New SS&D Website!
So, I finally got off my lazy butt and made a new website for Something Strange and Deadly.
I am very curious to know what you all think. Does it work for you? Can you navigate it okay? Is everything loading all right?
Let me know if you have any suggestions or issues!

It looks gorgeous! If I didn’t know you studied marine biology, I would have sworn you studied graphic design. I LOVE all of your pictures and little icons. I also really like how the design there compliments this website…it’s good branding because I can tell they are related to the same person! I can’t wait until you post an excerpt 🙂
May 6, 2011 @ 4:17 pm
Awesome! I’m so glad you like my “brand”–and I’m even more glad my “style” comes across so clearly! 😀 Thanks for checking the site out!
May 6, 2011 @ 1:11 pm
I’m looking at in on google chrome, and some of the words are mixed up (frex the “News” section appears about halfway down the page on top of the text, and overlays the text).
But the feel of the site is GORGEOUS– your style is so fantastic. It’s like your steampunk has more emphasis on true Victorian elements than the sort of automatic “machine” emphasis that I see sometimes. I LOVE how the Victorians were interested in plant and animal specimens and journals about nature, etc, and your work really captures that for me. LOVE it.
May 6, 2011 @ 4:16 pm
Well, for one, THANKS! I’m so glad you like it. For two, what OS do you use? On my google chrome it looks fine (I use a Mac). ::scratches head:: I have NO idea how to fix this….
May 6, 2011 @ 1:40 pm
You are some kind of website wizard (witch? Wizard sounds more complimentary…)! It’s a beautiful site, you’ve clearly put so much work into it – all the Victoriana buttons and icons, and just a touch of steampunkery. Great work!! 😀
May 6, 2011 @ 4:17 pm
HAHA. Definitely a wizard because you’re right, witch has a negative connotation. Thanks for checking the site out! <3
May 6, 2011 @ 1:47 pm
Really beautiful! The next button is almost invisible, so you might want to see if you can ad more contrast. I didn’t noticed it until I read someone else’s comment. But I love the sideways scroll of the button and everything seems to work really well. Loved the plot summary, too. Wish I could write funny. ;D
May 6, 2011 @ 4:18 pm
Again, ::scratches head:: Can you tell me what browser and operating system you use?? Maybe that’ll help me figure it out..
May 6, 2011 @ 2:41 pm
GORGEOUS!!! Absolutely stunning. You are incredibly talented with web design, Sooz. I didn’t have any trouble navigating it at all. Great job.
May 6, 2011 @ 4:19 pm
Thanks Holly–both for checking the site out and for your lovely comments!! <3
May 6, 2011 @ 6:00 pm
I LOVE it! I had no problems at all… I’m on a Mac- and I use safari (it seems as though I’m the only person who doesn’t like google chrome) :)– I like the sideways scroll too! I just can’t wait to read this book, Susan!! Oh and hello! the steampunk photos are a-maze-ing. You’re wielding that gun pretty deftly… I’m not sure I want to get into a duel with you after all! haha
May 7, 2011 @ 5:28 pm
Ha! Do you like my homemade gun? I am DEFINITELY prepped and ready to hunt some spirits!! 😉
May 6, 2011 @ 6:08 pm
I think the site looks great, as for the above comments, I’m using google chrome 11.0.696.60 beta, and it’s all fine for me.
I do have a minor tweak, but i’m gonna send it to you via e-mail cuz pretty specific and nerdy. These folks don’t need to see that.
May 7, 2011 @ 5:29 pm
Danke sehr, mein Lieber. <3 <3
May 6, 2011 @ 6:27 pm
WHOA!! I LOVE IT! It’s so totally my kind of design aesthetic, not that that’s what you going for or anything. 😉 You are so talented at web design!
(And FWIW, I use Firefox and the site looked perfect on that.)
May 7, 2011 @ 5:30 pm
THANKS! Glad to know most people can see it well–I’m not totally sure how to fix the complaints!! 😛 My skillz are limited.
May 6, 2011 @ 7:19 pm
Wow, it looks amazing! I’m a total Photoshop addict and so I must say that the graphics are beautiful and totally fit the style of the story. Just out of curiosity, what is the title of that lovely font you used for the initials? It’s GORGEOUS!
May 7, 2011 @ 5:31 pm
The font is called Royal Initialen! I’m glad you like it. 🙂 AND, I don’t use Photoshop but the GIMP–it’s awesome and (best of all) FREE! 😀
May 6, 2011 @ 7:46 pm
i love it! and i do like this title better. so exciting, i’m looking forward to reading it.
May 7, 2011 @ 5:31 pm
Thanks!! I’m so glad you like the new title–it took sooooo long to come up with!

Meant my youngest daughter AND my nephew doing illustrations. Both art majors/animation and graphic. If you need a book trailer for “Something Strange and Deadly”, let me know at my e-mail. They are working on my stuff and their own but I am sure they wil help you out with a short trailer. They are best with animation, but Nathan can do real life work as well. I really like your site layout and I wish you the best on the 2012 release of your book!
